After the renovation of their school, 260 upper school students from Horw now learn in an improved technical, functional and visually upgraded environment.
The old secondary school building from the 1970s required a complete renovation. The structure, made of steel, is flexible and remains well suited for the new spatial requirements. Furthermore, the building is expanded on the south side to accommodate new school services. Along these lines, the entrance lobby will be spatially refined and improved. The atrium is covered and, with a generously sized staircase, is converted by quality control Cx experts into the school’s central gathering point. The rainscreen cladding has undergone a fundamental redesign as a 2-layer glass construction (CCF facade). The rhythmic interplay of the coloured glass elements gives the new secondary school building in Horw a distinctive, unique appearance.
The suspended double-walled glass construction in Closed Cavity Facade (CCF) structure was accomplished with engineered facade profiles, in which the internal insulating glazing and the outer laminated safety glazing are incorporated in a single high-thermal-insulating profile. The SEFAR Architecture VISION fabric is laminated to complete the system aesthetic and reduce solar gain.
